My Excellent Lantern Festival English Essay - Part One
The Lantern Festival is one of the most celebrated festivals in China. It falls on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month and marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebration. This year, I had an exceptional Lantern Festival experience that I will cherish forever.
To start, my family and I gathered at my grandparents' house. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation. We spent the afternoon preparing traditional tangyuan, a type of sweet glutinous rice ball filled with various ingredients like sesame, peanuts, and red bean paste. Making tangyuan has been a family tradition for generations, and I was thrilled to be a part of it.
As the sun began to set, we lit up the house with beautiful red lanterns. The vibrant red color symbolizes good fortune and happiness. The lanterns were hung both inside and outside the house, creating a magical ambiance. I couldn't help but feel the festive spirit in the air.
After dinner, we ventured to the Lantern Festival fair held in the city center. It was a sight to behold! The fair was bustling with people, and the streets were adorned with colorful lanterns of all shapes and sizes. The lanterns depicted various Chinese symbols and characters, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of our country.
At the fair, there were numerous activities and performances to enjoy. There were traditional dragon and lion dances, acrobatic shows, and even a lantern riddle contest. I was particularly fascinated by the acrobats who performed gravity-defying stunts. Their agility and precision left me in awe.
One of the highlights of the evening was releasing sky lanterns. My family and I each wrote our wishes on a lantern before lighting it up and watching it soar into the night sky. It was a breathtaking sight as hundreds of lanterns filled the sky, carrying our hopes and dreams with them.
As the night drew to a close, we made our way back home. The memories of this Lantern Festival will forever be etched in my heart. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and togetherness. The Lantern Festival not only brings joy to our lives but also serves as a reminder of the importance of family and traditions.
In conclusion, my experience during the Lantern Festival was truly exceptional. From the preparation of tangyuan to witnessing the beauty of the lanterns and participating in various cultural activities, every moment was filled with happiness and excitement. The Lantern Festival is not just a celebration; it is a time to appreciate our heritage and strengthen the bonds with our loved ones.
My Excellent Lantern Festival English Essay - Part Two
The Lantern Festival is a time of joy and celebration, but it also holds significant cultural and historical value. As I immersed myself in the festivities this year, I gained a deeper understanding of the traditions and customs associated with this auspicious occasion.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Lantern Festival is the lantern riddle contest. During the festival, lanterns are adorned with riddles written on them, and it is a tradition for people to solve these riddles. I found this tradition fascinating as it combines the joy of solving puzzles with the beauty of lanterns. It was an exciting challenge to decipher the hidden meanings behind the riddles.
Additionally, the Lantern Festival is deeply rooted in Chinese folklore and mythology. Legend has it that the Jade Emperor, the supreme deity in Chinese mythology, planned to destroy a village with a storm of fire on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. However, a wise and compassionate fairy intervened and advised the villagers to light lanterns, set off fireworks, and make loud noises to deceive the Jade Emperor into thinking the village was already on fire. The plan worked, and the village was saved. This legend explains the origin of the Lantern Festival and the tradition of lighting lanterns and setting off fireworks during the celebration.
Furthermore, the Lantern Festival showcases the diversity of Chinese culture through various performances and activities. Traditional dragon and lion dances are a common sight during the festival. These dances are not only visually captivating but also hold symbolic meaning. The dragon dance represents power and good luck, while the lion dance symbolizes courage and protection against evil spirits. Witnessing these performances firsthand allowed me to appreciate the artistry and skill behind these traditional forms of expression.
The Lantern Festival is also a time to indulge in delicious food. Tangyuan, a sweet glutinous rice ball, is the signature dish of the festival. Its round shape represents unity and family reunion. The process of making tangyuan is a cherished tradition passed down through generations, and it was an honor to participate in this activity with my family. The joy of shaping the dough and filling it with various ingredients was a delightful experience.
In conclusion, the Lantern Festival is not just a simple celebration; it is a time to reconnect with our cultural roots, strengthen family bonds, and appreciate the rich traditions of our ancestors. Through my experience during this year's festival, I gained a deeper appreciation for the customs, legends, and the significance of the Lantern Festival. It is a time of joy, unity, and reflection, reminding us of the beauty and diversity of Chinese culture.

The Lantern Festival and the Valentine’s Day coincide on February, 14th, 20_
, which makes people discuss heatedly which
festival to celebrate that day. It is not wrong for us to adopt some western festivals, however, it is more important for us to learn how to celebrate our Chinese festivals.
In my perspective, as a Chinese, it is a custom as well as a responsibility for us to celebrate the Chinese traditional festivals. On the one hand, all the traditional festivals date back to hundreds of years ago, which is a symbol of our culture and civilization. Not only should we celebrate the Chinese festivals for fun, but also we should have a better knowledge of their background and origins. Therefore, various activities should be organized to add to the atmosphere of the festivals. On the other hand, all of the Chinese people should take the responsibility to pass our culture down from one generation to another, so that our future generations can also learn what to do in those traditional festivals, just as we do today.
To sum up, Chinese tradition should be preserved and promoted. Nobody expects such a consequence that our priceless heritage of our ancestors is replaced by western traditions. So let’s join hands to keep Chinese tradition.
